Therapy on Horseback Carries Rewards - Hippotherapy is a treatment that uses the movement of a horse. Conditions such as autism and learning disabilities may benefit from hippotherapy. Hippotherapy is entering the mainstream and catching on across the U.S. Treatment can cost up to $200 for a one-hour session, a therapist says.
 

MI Pretty Pony Pastures is a Therapeutic Riding center offering a safe and enjoyable horse experience for persons with special needs. Our programs include horsemanship and horse management as well as riding.

 

Horses Provide Therapy for Students with Disabilities - The Matheny School in Peapack, N.J., has launched a 10-week therapeutic riding program to strengthen the muscles of its students with special needs and boost their confidence. Research, while limited, suggests riding therapy improves children's gross motor functions, with the gains persisting after the riding ends.

A new organization is being formed to provide support and advocacy for people with brain injuries who are receiving alternative therapies. One of the aims of the organization is to promote the legitimacy of alternative therapies and pursue Medicaid funding of them.
